Review: DC’s Capital Clash 2015

Gerogetown Auditorium

The last weekend in February, six DC based bands came together at Georgetown University for DC’s battle of the bands: Capital Clash.  The bands included acts from multiple universities as well as the city as a whole, including Boon, Tigers are Bad for Horses, Bencoolen, Marlon Craft, the Ripples, and more.

Each band took turns playing one song for the sold-out audience and judges, while all the bands had a strong showing, it came down to Tigers are Bad for Horses, an electronic outfit from Georgetown and Bencoolen, a jam band complete with a saxophone player.
In the end, Bencoolen took the trophy, likely due to a breathtaking saxophone solo and unstoppable bass in their final tune.
If you missed the event, don’t worry, as all the bands play shows around DC, including Bencoolen’s show the next week at the Black Cat and an upcoming house show at the Brandywine Collective with both Tigers are Bad for Horses and Boon.  Almost all the acts are recorded, as well, if you want the listening experience without leaving the house, including Boon’s recent album Rome, which is quickly becoming a favorite in the local music scene.  You’ll find at the end of this page a collection of links to four of the band’s websites where you can listen and download their music.
